The Luna Negra, or Dark Moon, athame is an excellent piece for your altar and your ritual. The black wood hilt is carved with a spiral pattern up the handle, lending it a nocturnal quality. The double-edged blade is wider at the guard and tapered to a sharp point in the Cinquedea style, making it perfect for directing energy without being heavy.

Popular in 15th and 16th century Italy, the Cinquedea blades are named for the "five fingers" of width towards the guard. An exceptional choice for Renn-Faires, this blade style was one of few things from the Italian Renaissance that didn't gain wide popularity in Europe. Gorgeous Athame

I received the Luna Negra athame and it is both beautiful and well crafted. It arrived with a black leather sheath with a belt loop and snap fastener for the hilt so it's very secure. The hilt is carved with a spiral pattern running its length and has an interesting grain of very fine alternating black and white lines which gives it a gray/dark-ash appearance at distance. Both the pommel and guard/bolster are brass-toned. Very happy with the purchase!!! It also had a nice handwritten blessing on the shipping insert. Thanks B. and thanks 13 Moons. : )
